[Sofia and Han Kyung]
"Sofia, it's lunch time. Let's go," said Han Kyung as he closed his book. They were in the library looking around.
"Yeah, I'm hungry," said Sofia as she placed a book on the table. They stood up from their chairs, grabbed their things and left. As they walked along the bookshelves, Sofia saw a boy sitting with a book in his hand. He did not look like a typical Korean student since his skin was tanned as a result of spending too much time under the sun. He had a tough built and had a typical student's haircut.
"Kyung-ah!" whispered Sofia. She pointed towards the boy. "Who is he?" she asked. "He doesn't look Korean," she added.
"Oh, that guy! He's Malaysia too, just like you. His name is Alam Shah. He's the Commanding Officer of Aquinas Brigade. He's tough," replied Han Kyung.
"Yeah, I can tell," said Sofia. "And I heard that he plans to serve the army," added Han Kyung.
They made their way out of the library. They unlocked the lockers located right outside the library, retrieved their things and left.
They bumped into two boys. One of them had fair skin and the other had reddish tan. Han Kyung bowed to them followed by Sofia.
"Annyeong, Jae Joong hyung, Chang Min hyung," greeted Han Kyung. Both Chang Min and Jae Joong bowed back.
"Annyeong," replied Jae Joong. He did not seem to smile. His fair skin made his appearance cold. "Off to lunch?" he asked. Both Han Kyung and Sofia nodded. Jae Joong nodded back.
Chang Min noticed Sofia and said, "Hi, are you new here? I've never seen you before!" Sofia smiled and replied, "Yeah, I am....." she looked at Chang Min's blazer and saw his name tag. "Shim Chang Min!"
Chang Min cried, "That's right!" He did the same to Sofia. "Kim Hyun Ae!" he exclaimed. "Correct," she replied. "What year are you in?" asked Chang Min. "Third year," replied Sofia.
Jae Joong turned to Chang Min and said, "Let's go." Chang Min nodded. "I'll see you later, Hyun Ae. Remember, there will be an orientation for 3rd year students today at 2:30 in the Aquinas Auditorium. Nice to meet you!" he hollered as he walked with Jae Joong.
"Okay! Nice to meet you too. Thanks!" replied Sofia.
"I'm still wondering how they can be best friends. Jae Joong is ice cold while Chang Min is all sunshine warm," said Han Kyung. Sofia just smiled. "What's the orientation for?" she asked.
Han Kyung explained, "Well, orientation for third year students is different compared to orientation for new students. For new students, they will brief you about the academy, the subjects and other normal stuff like academy's staffs and rules and all. BUT, 3rd year students' is different, because 3rd years have to take extra-curricular activities for three years. There are three categories of activities: Uniform Bodies, Sports and Societies. Each category is compulsory for all students to join." "Oh, I see," said Sofia.
At the cafeteria, Sofia asked the cafeteria lady, "Sillyehamnida, is this place halal?" The cafeteria lady smiled and nodded while showing pointing at something that seem like a certification.
"It is. Don't worry." Sofia turned and saw the same boy that she saw in the library smiling at her. He extended his hand and said, "I'm Alam." "Hyun Ae," replied Sofia as she extended hers as well.
"Nice to meet you, Hyun Ae," said Alam. "Well, I have a Malay name which is Sofia, but you can call me Hyun Ae if you like," said Sofia. Alam looked at Sofia and said, "I'll call you Hyun Ae since it's in the name tag."
"Well, I have to go. I'll see you around," said Alam as he left after paying for his food.
Sofia carried her tray and looked around. She saw Han Kyung waving at her. She moved towards Han Kyung's table.
"Sofia. This is my friend Ryeo Wook," said Han Kyung as he introduced her to a boy with a spiky hair.
Sofia sat down beside Ryeo Wook and said, "Nice to meet you, Ryeo Wook." Ryeo Wook smiled back and replied, "Nice to meet you, too."
"I saw you and Alam just now. You actually talk to him?" asked Han Kyung in disbelief. "Yeah, why?" asked Sofia, confused.
Ryeo Wook put his sandwich on a brown paper bag and said, "Alam is a very tough guy. It's hard for students to approach him." He proceeded to pick up his sandwich and bit it. While chewing he went, "Alam's tough and strict and you don't want to get on his bad side. He rarely talks to people other than the Aquinas Brigade and his best friend, Hyun Joon hyung."
"Well, he seems nice to me," said Sofia as she unwrapped her sandwich.
Then, Aris and Shin Dong came with their lunch trays and placed them on the table. Aris proceeded to messed with Ryeo Wook's hair and exclaimed, "Wookie! How are you?" Thet both sat beside Ryeo Wook.
Ryeo Wook frowned as he finished his sandwich. "Fine," he replied. "I heard you guys pulled a prank on your new English teacher, Miss Song Hye Gyo,"said Ryeo Wook.
Aris frowned. "You know what, that stupid Min Ho is going to get it," said Aris. "Yeah, that snitch!" added Shin Dong. Sofia lowered her head.
Aris noticed Sofia and asked, "Hey, don't I know you?" Sofia did not respond. Han Kyung asked her, "Hyun Ae ah, kkwenchanayo?" Sofia did not answer. He just lowered her head. Aris flashed a sinister grin and threw his brocolli at Sofia's head.
"Yah! That hurts!" cried Sofia as she stood up ready to attack Aris. Realising that the whole cafeteria was watching her and that she just blew her cover, she sat down instantly.
Aris gasped and exclaimed gleefully, "Oh my God! You're Nurul Sofia Izzati! No wonder you look so familiar." Sofia glumly said, "Hi, Aris."
Ryeo Wook was confused. "Sofia?" he asked. Aris proceeded to talk, "She's a Muslim, which explains why she has a Muslim name. Isn't that right, Hyun Ae?" "Right," replied Sofia.
"I wonder why you use your Korean name here. Be proud of your name, Sofia. And you, Han Kyung. Just use Hang Geng lah! " Han Kyung rolled his eyes. He whispered to Sofia's ears, "I always get that." Sofia shook her head.
"I have Korean name so since I'm here, just use lah! I used my Muslim name there so the ustazah won't halau me from Islamic Studies class," said Sofia.
"Whatever lah!" said Aris as he rolled his eyes. He began to unwrap his sandwich and as he was about to eat it, he heard a sound from the cafeteria intercom.
"Annyeong haseyo. To all 3rd year students of Aquinas Academy, you are required to be at the auditorium at 2 pm today. Please don't be late. That is all. Kamsa hamnida."
Shin Dong nudged at Aris and pointed towards the front. "Yah, look there!" Aris looked up and froze. Ryeo Wook turned and looked towards the same direction as Aris and Shin Dong did. "Oh my God!" Ryeo Wook exclaimed.
"What's wrong?' asked Hyun Ae. Ryeo Wook pointed to the girl who was standing at the cafetria line while twisting her hair. She was wearing the academy's uniform and had her hair tied into a ponytail. "That's Jessicca Jung. Captain of Aquinas cheerleading team, Valens. She is basically almost every guy's dream girl," explained Ryeo Wook. Han Kyung asked, "Almost?" Ryeo Wook coolly replied, "She's not my dream girl."
"She's not mine either," said Han Kyung. "Ulljjang!" exclaimed Aris. "I agree!" exclaimed Shin Dong. Both of them sighed while staring at Jessica Jung. Ryeo Wook, Sofia and Han Kyung tried to ignore them.
"I wonder what extra-curricular activities is available," said Sofia. Ryeo Wook replied, "There's Aquinas Brigade aka Pre Army Course. There's Fire Brigade, Red Cross, Boy's and Girl's Brigade aka Scouts and Girl Guides. Then, there's Contemporary & Traditional Music, Drama, Photography, International Student Society, Young Enterpreneur, Christian Fellowship and Debate. For sports, there's soccer, basketball, baseball, badminton, football, cheerleading and dance." "Wait a minute. Dance is under sports category?" asked Aris.
Out of nowhere, a fair skinned boy appeared and banged the table. His hair was dark brown and messy. He wore a pink shirt under his blazer instead of the academy's light blue shirt. "Yes, it is. Dance is a sport. NOT A SOCIETY THAT WE SIT AND DISCUSS ABOUT ACTIVITIES!!! We danced and.......... together we will be the best dancers in all of Korea!!!!!!!" he cried enthusiastically. He turned to Sofia and his friends and said, "Enjoy your lunch." He proceeded to take out his sunglasses from his blazer pocket and put them on and left.
"Oh.....kay. He is craaaazy!" said Aris.
